New Gen.G and Complexity rosters unable to qualify in debuts

It wasn’t the best week if you’re a Complexity and Gen.G fan hoping for a big first outing. Both of the organization’s new lineups didn’t succeed in their first attempts to qualify for events in 2020.

Complexity looked strong at times but fell short of the finals in the IEM Katowice 2020 North America closed qualifier and then took two 16-14 losses to Cloud9 in the DreamHack Open Leipzig North American closed qualifier to end their run.

In a similar fashion to the IEM Katowice qualifier, William “RUSH” Wierzba and Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke were lacking in firepower, performing at the bottom of the scoreboard for Complexity. Both players have a history of being able to perform at the highest level and will need to find that form once more if Complexity wants to compete for the top spots in North America.

On the Gen.G side, there’s a little more slack to be given as the team was playing with Hunter “SicK” Mims as a stand-in as they wait for Hansel “BnTeT” Ferdinand to arrive and join the team full-time. With that in mind, we didn’t see Gen.G at their full capacity.

Neither of Gen.G’s attempts at the qualifiers went as well as Complexity’s as they fell to both COL and INTZ to be eliminated from the IEM Katowice qualifier, only picking up a win over FURIA. Gen.G was able to take revenge on INTZ in the DreamHack Open Leipzig qualifier but would fall 2-0 to eUnited in the next match to be eliminated without reaching double digits on either map.

Kennet “koosta” Suen struggled throughout nearly every match lost by Gen.G with a -29 in his last six maps of the IEM Katowice qualifier and a -21 in the final four maps of the DreamHack Open qualifier. Things are certainly going to change once BnTeT arrives and some positions may be swapped around allowing for the likes of koosta and others to become more comfortable in their place on the team.

Both teams will have more time to work out the kinks and prove themselves with plenty of events and qualifiers coming in the next few weeks and months.
