Education in Esports
Tier One Entertainment has teamed up with Lyceum of the Philippines University to develop a bachelor’s program in esports. No doubt this will be a serious degree to consider for people, especially teenagers who dedicate most of their time playing video games.
In fact, the wait may not be so long since Tier One CEO Tryke Gutierrez said that the course is 80% done. Future students have two tracks to choose from, either Game Design or Esports Management.
Now, one can earn money while playing video games. This undertaking may bring in a whole new definition to the phrase, “kaka-kompyuter mo ‘yan!”
The Staffordshire University for one is the first university in the United Kingdom to offer a course in Esports. Other universities in the US are also starting to launch their own programs in Esports. They are not only trained to be competitive players, but also to develop other skill sets related such as casting, management, and content creation.
