MAD Lions wins against North to secure the top seed in Group B
MAD Lions won their second Danish showdown of the day, this time against North, to secure a semi-final slot at DreamHack Open Leipzig.
After taking down Heroic earlier in the day, the ex-Tricked side staked their claim as Denmark’s No.2 team as they beat the new North lineup, led by Mathias “MSL” Lauridsen, to join BIG in the tournament semi-finals.
The first pistol round saw MAD Lions crumble in a post-plant situation, letting North take initial momentum. After finding their first success once rifles were in hand, the Ts persisted past a setback, accruing five consecutive rounds while maintaining a healthy economy off the back of solid survival rates.
MSL’s solid AWPing facilitated North’s resurgence towards the end of the first half, which eventually concluded 8-7 in favour of MAD Lions.
The roles were reversed in the second pistol round, as MAD Lions opened their defensive campaign with a post-plant conversion of their own, courtesy of a USP-S triple kill from Fredrik “roeJ” Jørgensen. North retaliated once their finances were in check, but their pursuit lacked longevity, as the CTs excelled to a 13-9 score, witnessing a spectacular 1v2 from Frederik “acoR” Gyldstrand in the process. The DreamHack Open Sevilla champions turned the game on its head when they won an eco round, but MAD Lions kept their composure and ran away with the game.
