Test your might in the arena of Battlerite!
Tired of the same old MOBA format? Want to get straight to the action without grinding through the laning phase? Well, go and give this game some of your time.
Battlerite is an action-packed game from Stunlock Studios released in 2016. The devs categorize this game as a MOBA or a multiplayer online battle arena game, however it plays really different from your traditional MOBAs. How is it different, you ask? Well, take a look at the gameplay and see for yourself.
There’s a lot going on, so let me explain.
The Battlerite gameplay is fast-paced, and skillshot-based, relying on your quick-time reactions to be able to accurately predict when to hit or dodge attacks. So for those playing at low framerates, you might want to master the prediction aspect, as that’s what you’ll be relying on most of the time.
The orbs in the middle of the arena are healing orbs, which, when acquired by your team, give you instantaneous healing, and a proper orb capture might help turn the tide of battle.
The game’s champion roster features three categories: Melee, Ranged, and Support. Unlike Dota 2, not all Champions are available to the player initially. You can, however, unlock these characters in exchange for Battle Coins, the game’s in-game currency, or through Gems, if you have IRL cash to spare.
As mentioned before, the game features fast-paced action and requires a player to be on their feet all the time to be able to react quickly. Though classified as a MOBA, it plays very differently. It could be closer to a Battle Royale (they released Battlerite Royale two years after the release of this game), with players fighting for their lives in skirmishes of 2v2 or 3v3. The arena of play also shrinks a la battle royale once the countdown timer reaches 30 seconds.
However, people on the internet consider this game as dead. The game has been deprived of new updates, the last one being in 2019 and its esports scene being last active in the same year.
The game doesn’t require much to play, as seen by its specs here:
- OS: Windows XP or newer
- Processor: Dual Core from Intel or AMD at 2.8 GHz
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Graphics: Intel HD 3000
- DirectX: Version 9.0c
- Network: Broadband Internet connection
- Storage: 3000 MB available space
- Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
Overall, this is a fun casual game you could play to pass off some time and experience a fresh environment aside from the Rift and the Dota 2 battlefield. If you’re interested, you can check the game out and play it for yourselves here.
