Virtus.Pro exits DreamHack Open Leipzig in last place

Virtus.pro has gone out unexpectedly early at DreamHack Open Leipzig, exiting the tournament in last place. The roster which was picked up by Virtus.pro in December from AVANGAR currently sits in 19th place in the HLTV ranking after a relatively break out 2019.

The squad’s miracle run at the StarLadder Major in Berlin helped to cement their place near the top for at least the time being. Being able to follow the impressive event with a win at Moscow’s BLAST Pro Series event certainly helped, however, they’ve been unable to achieve the same success since and this result only further points to increasing struggles for the Kazakhstani side.

Virtus.pro opened up the event with a 16-8 loss to BIG to send them into the elimination match against Cloud9. The North American side would sweep Virtus.pro with rather onesided scorelines. Cloud9 would take Overpass 16-4 before giving up just seven rounds on Dust2 to close out the series and send Virtus.pro packing.

To make matters worse, this is the second last-place finish for the squad in back-to-back fashion. Virtus.pro finished in last place at EPICENTER 2019 in Russia.

The previous Virtus.pro lineup had struggled to make much noise internationally and was replaced by this lineup and thus far it looks like the story hasn’t gotten much better.
