Team Secret are crowned victors of 2020’s first Major

DreamLeague Season 13 came to an end today with the grand finals featuring Evil Geniuses and Team Secret fighting for the first Major title in 2020.

The third place curse was lifted once again for Evil Geniuses as they ripped through Vici Gaming in the lower bracket final in an epic three game series. In winning, EG got their revenge for the ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational and the MDL Chengdu Major as they stormed passed the Chinese team into a massive grand final series against Team Secret.

Coming off their brilliant victory over VG, EG looked like an amazing squad, playing in ways we’ve seen from them throughout much of the entire tournament.  From their draft to their execution, they we nearly perfect as they destroyed Secret in the first game of the series, never allowing their opponent to get off the mark. But then came the Secret squad which we know and expect – with a Meepo pick for Michal ‘Nisha’ Jankowski, which obliterated EG in game two and tied the series.

An extremely back-and-forth game three, one where both sides seemed on par with one another, it was EG with a Naga Siren and Storm Spirit draft which ended up coming out way ahead in the late game and placing themselves one win away from their first ever Major tile in the DPC. As expected though, things were far from over as Secret fought back once more, ensuring that both teams would get one last shot to take the first Major of 2020 title.

Secret were definitely prepared for everything that EG were about to attempt to throw at them in the final game of the series – and of the DreamLeague Season 13 Major. Right from the start, Secret were methodical in their play as they moved around the map and ripped through EG constantly.

With no way at all to fight against Secret’s lineup, EG would have to call the GG as Secret claimed the title of Leipzig Major champions. For Lasse ‘Matumbaman’ Urpalainen, this would be his first Major championship win since the China Dota 2 Supermajor all the way back in 2018, which saw Team Liquid qualify to TI8

With that, the first Major of 2020 comes to an end as we now look toward the next set of qualifiers which take place in just a few short weeks from February 9-14th.
