Only five teams remain at DreamLeague Season 13: Leipzig Major

Invictus Gaming pass the beastcoast sanity check at the Leipzig Major

Second Major in the Pro Circuit season brings another top eight finish for beastcoast, who despite playing with a stand-in at DreamLeague Season 13, they stayed true to their playstyle and forced their adversaries to an intricate and at times impossible to read game plan.

Their road at the Leipzig Major was brought to an end by Invictus Gaming in the third round of the lower bracket with a clean 2-0 victory from the Chinese team, who managed to outdraft beascoast in both games of the series. Io slipped through the first round of bans in game one, and iG first picked it to develop later on a line-up featuring multiple stuns, big AoE damage and a Slark that was impossible to catch with his 20 minutes Aghanim’s Scepter. beastcoast lost all lanes, but were able to mount a comeback through the mid stage of the game courtesy of their mid lane Magnus, who went for Daedalus and Abyssal Blade items and was able to not only initiate, but also dish out a copious amount of damage. Unfortunately for the SA Dota fans, beastcoast got outplayed by Chan “Oli” Chon Kien on Io. He was lucky to have the Spider Legs in his inventory and iG forced a few fights around the cliffs, where their Io was king, healing and keeping his Tether partner buffed with the Overcharge.

In the second game beastcoast decided to first pick Doom and use him in the carry position. Héctor “K1” Rodríguez managed to stay at the top of the networth chart through the entire game, although he was playing against an Arc Warden and a Phantom Lancer. But even so, his team wasn’t strong enough to deal with the swarming power of iG’s cores and beastcoast eventually lost the game and the entire series.

Although it’s the Lunar Year’s eve for Invictus Gaming, they won’t have too much time to sit down and celebrate. Their Major games will resume tomorrow, January 25 with another battle for survival, this time around versus Evil Geniuses.

Taiga’s Enigma sends Team Liquid marching forward at DreamLeague Season 13

In the first day at the Leipziger Messe at DreamLeague Season 13 we would see three more teams eliminated and after Beastcoast were sadly sent packing, Team Liquid and TNC Predator would need to fight to move on at the Major.

After taking down Fnatic in an extremely brilliant performance yesterday, TNC Predator seemed to have finally adapted to the current Dota 2 meta and, once again, looked like a team worthy of a second 2019/2020 Dota 2 Pro Circuit Major title. Team Liquid, however, had been also finding their footing in the lower bracket, and even though they seemed to have troubles closing out games at times, they definitely would not make the path forward easy for TNC.

We had begun to see many teams become more comfortable with certain hero choices in the past few days and some of those were the Treant Protector, Disruptor and Drow Ranger – all of which featured in the first game. While it was TNC that grabbed the Distruptor, Liquid’s fast-paced lineup was far too much for them to deal with. By just 26-mniutes Liquid had dropped the middle lane of barracks and barely ten minutes later TNC called GG.

But the kings of Southeast Asia were far from out as game two was completely theirs. Right from the start TNC took control of every lane in the game and dominated Liquid. While it was not a bloodbath of kills, it was pure perfection from TNC as they meticulously worked their way into their opponent’s base and ripped them down – forcing a third and decisive game three. The final game of the series between these two brilliant teams was an all-out brawl with teamfights breaking out everywhere after the early game period.

While TNC seemed to have the ability to fight back against the full teamfight combination of Liquid, there was one factor that they did not expect – it was Tommy ‘Taiga’ Le’s Enigma, which became the game changer with some amazing Black Hole plays. With constant catches on the TNC lineup, Taiga basically put Liquid on his back saved his team from elimination.

After an absolutely breathtaking Major from TNC Predator their DreamLeague Season 13 run will come to an end in an extremely valiant seventh/eighth place. For Team Liquid, they march forward in the lower bracket where they will face Alliance tomorrow.

Evil Geniuses take another step forward at the Leipzig Major

One last series was left for the day at DreamLeague Season 13 and it would be another that involved elimination as Evil Geniuses took on Invictus Gaming.

After eliminating Beastcoast from the Major earlier today, Invictus Gaming were back on stage to defend themselves against elimination once again but this time against the North American organisation that is Evil Geniuses. Having last met at MDL Chengdu, EG would be looking to get some revenge as it was iG who knocked them out of the previous Major and at the end of the day, only one of these teams would remain.

In the opening game of the series, EG were dominant, playing perfectly around the map and pushing iG away from obtaining any farm. While there were very few kills, EG lost only a single tier one tower as Abed ‘Abed’ Yusop dropped the Outworld Devourer hammer to secure a RAMPAGE and a 1-0 series lead.

iG went into the next game with a very strange draft as they picked up the Clinkz for Jin ‘flyfly’ Zhiyi – and they played it almost perfectly. The Chinese squad destroyed the EG lineup throughout the game, except for one moment where EG managed to team-wipe their opponent. But this wasn’t near enough to turn the game and with that we would have a game three.

With one final game in the series it seemed as though iG had completely fallen apart, even after their magnificent victory just prior. While iG had small glimmers of hope when their Anti-Mage was finally able to fight, it was all too little too late as the Chinese team were picked apart by a rampant EG.

After another fantastic Major effort from iG comes to an end as they fall short once more, this time managing a fith/sixth place finish. Evil Geniuses will get their revenge for MDL Chengdu and march forward in the lower bracket of DreamLeague Season 13. With that only five teams now remaining in the tournament as we get closer to crowing the first Major champion of 2020.
