Here’s what we know so far about the story of Wei, the proud disciple of the Anti-Mage
The new Anti-Mage persona “Wei” has finally blinked to our horizons and her voice lines seem to tell a story that may leave fans of the Dota 2 lore even more puzzled.
Aside from Wei’s deep hatred on the item Blink Dagger, which is evident in her voice lines upon purchasing the said item and by click-spamming her avatar, Wei narrated a good amount of her backstory, and on how she met the Anti-Mage.
According to her own accounts, the Anti-Mage found her in the “remains of a caravan on a trail of those who slaughtered her kin.” She has no recollection of her family and has considered the Anti-Mage as her father. She also said that the Anti-Mage only gave her vague details on how she was found. These discoveries lead us to wonder about what creatures could have possibly orphaned the young Wei.
While she thinks that the Anti-Mage owes her a children’s story, she believes that she was destined to form a student-mentor relationship with the Anti-Mage despite the opposition of the “sanctuary,” a safe house for lost children.
This seems sensible since there was a mention of an off-screen character referred by Wei as “Vanessa” who sways her into thinking that the Anti-Mage is only using her. Wei then says that she isn’t surprised with Vanessa’s reactions, and added that with her being a wizard, “lying comes easy with their kind.”
Meditation may not be one of Wei’s strongest suites, yet she shares the same passion of ending magic, like that of her mentor the Anti-Mage
Are these dialogues hints for new heroes or characters that are to join the defense of the ancients soon?
The anti-Mage persona was released on July 11 SGT and can be unlocked at level 305 Battle Pass. It comes with a completely new model, animations, and custom hero assets.
