South.gg Exclusives: Kumustahan with Zeal Esports

It has been over a month since the former 6045 Pirates crew moved under their new banner as Zeal Esports. The South.gg crew had the chance to sit down with Zeal Esports head coach Yuki “Zyki” Uruma and do a little catch-up on how things have been faring with Zeal Esports.

“Things have been great! We’ve proved to the the doubters that our VCT run was neither a fluke nor just out of luck,” Zyki had this to say when asked about how things have been since their move. The team finished third place in VCT Stage 2 Philippines, managing to move on the the SEA Challengers series.

Since their new mantle as Zeal Esports, the ex-Pirates have joined and won many tournaments, with the most recent one being their victory as overall champion in the KJC Valorant Tournament One, winning against the Singaporean team Paper Rex.

Zyki says the team’s recent victories are largely due to a better boot camp with great facilities and equipment, where they could focus on practicing and worry little about everything else. In fact, he said that he added more things in their daily practice routine to “keep up with the international scene.” He also expressed that being part of tournaments almost every week was “honestly draining,” but that “it would be worth it, as we win almost all tournaments we participate in, plus it helps us train and play with other teams and their playstyles.”

We asked Zyki regarding the team’s preparations for the upcoming third iteration for the Valorant Champions Tour, and he said that it would be different this time than when they were under the 6045 Pirates banner, saying that they are now “scrimming with some top-tier local teams as well as with international teams,” and saying that they are excited to face-off with Bren Esports, saying that “[Bren Esports] is the team to beat. If we do that, we’ve had made a deeper mark in the Philippine Valorant scene.”
